Assalāmu`alaykum wa Rahmatullah

Welcome to our website! We aim to offer a wide range professional services to the Waltham Forest community, insha’allah.

CONCERN FOR THE COMMUNITY

There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful. (Surah Taubah 128)

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “None of you are true believers until you love for your brother what you love for yourself” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Nu`man ibn Bashir رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “The believers in their mutual mercy, love and compassion are like a body, when one limb is in pain the rest of the body joins in insomnia, fever and restlessness.” (Bukhari)

OUR STORY

On 8th December 2016, a small group of Imams & Scholars came together in Imam Shoyaib’s living room to discuss how to provide guidance and leadership to local Muslims and how to work for the best interests of the Waltham Forest community. Since then, the group has been navigating and trialing various ideas and ways of working under the name Waltham Forest Ulama (WFU).

This setup is entirely independent and not linked to any government body, media outlet and particular Muslim organisation. WFU has formed somewhat informally based on common interests and prior established connections.

MISSION & GOALS

WFU aims to research the needs of local Muslims, study available facilities that provide possible solutions and work towards filling gaps in essential services.

We hope to represent Waltham Forest Muslims in engagement with civic bodies and to build bridges with other faith and no-faith groups via a multi-faith approach.

The core objectives of the WFU are:

  • To preserve, safeguard and enhance the faith (Iman) of local Muslims, individually and at a societal level.
  • To address current social challenges and offer religious guidance in dealing with these.
  • To serve the wider non-Muslim community in Waltham Forest whereby reviving the true values of humanity in Islam.

WFU acknowledges the good work being carried out by several organisations with similar objectives; and aims to support, train and offer scholarly and expert advice to them, such as:

  • Civic Bodies
  • Local mosques
  • Muslim schools
  • Muslim charities/organisations.
  • Waltham Forest Council of Mosques

WFU operates independently from any of the above organisations with a collaborative approach and does not wish to conflict with the scope and core aims of the above organisations and groups.
